3D Paper Vase: Let’s Make Art

Let’s Make Art brings you some making tutorials using easily found materials that you’ll already have at home.

This tutorial teaches you how to make a 3D paper vase, and is suitable for all ages.

We’ve provided you with written and photographic instructions or a video tutorial, so follow whatever suits you best.

You will need:

  • an empty cereal box or plain card
  • 1 sheet of plain/scrap paper to make a template with
  • an old magazine/newspaper or coloured paper
  • a pencil
  • a glue stick
  • a stapler (tape or punched holes and string will work if you don’t have a stapler)
  • a washed-out glass jar/bottle/tin can
  • scissors

Instructions

  • Fold your paper in half longways and draw a line that will make the outside edges of your vase shape, and then cut it out.
  • Unfold the paper and use the shape you’ve made as a template for your vase on both pieces of the cereal box before cutting them out.
  • Use a stapler (or strong tape) to attach both sides of your vase.
  • Fold over colourful pages from magazines before cutting shapes out (this makes them symmetrical).
  • Decide on your design by placing your shapes on the vase before sticking them on.
  • Gently ease a jar or a tin into the vase and add flowers.

Top tip: You can make your vase into a wall vase by removing the jar/tin and punching a hole in the back. Perhaps you could make some paper or Lego flowers for your vase and hang them on the wall!
